Examinations


At the Camberley Dance Academy RAD Ballet and ISTD Modern Theatre and Tap examinations are offered at the discretion of the Principal, and are held throughout the year. The school has 100% pass rate for all Graded and Vocational examinations in Ballet, Modern Theatre and Tap with a very high percentage gaining Distinction. 

We offer a wide range of examinations and class awards to motivate and reward students of all ages and abilities. The focus is on creativity and musicality, providing opportunities to progress and achieve.

Taking exams is an important part of a child's dance development. They are not compulsory, but we encourage students to take exams as it provides them with a goal, reinforces the importance of discipline and gives them, their parents and teacher a measure of their progress.

Exam Coaching Classes

As part of the preparation for examinations, students are required to attend examination coaching classes in addition to their normal classes during the term of their examination. This ensures that students are able to maximise their potential and have the confidence to complete their examinations successfully.

Royal Academy of Dance - RAD
Ballet

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the world's most influential dance education and training organisations, with it's global headquarters in London. 

The RAD's patron is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the President is Dame Darcy Bussell, DBE. With 13,000 members in 89 countries the RAD have an incredible network to shape and influence the future of dance. With around a quarter of a million students taking exams each year, the RAD believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn to dance. 

A recent Ofsted inspection found the Academy to be an 'outstanding provider' of initial teacher education. The RAD's examinations are recognised by Ofqual and contribute to UCAS points, and their exams set the standards in classical ballet worldwide.

Founded in 1920 the RAD is celebrating 100 years in 2020.
Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing - ISTD

Modern Theatre & Tap

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is one of the world’s leading dance examination boards. 

Membership of the ISTD recognises the professional status of a dance teacher and reassures students and parents of a teacher’s training and expertise. They offer a wide spectrum of exams to children, students, amateurs and professionals. Today the ISTD has more than 7,500 members in over 50 countries worldwide and holds a quarter of a million examinations each year. The examination structure of the ISTD is designed equally for those who wish to progress to making dance their profession, or for those pursuing dance for enjoyment.

Founded in 1904 the ISTD have provided training for dance teachers, enabling them to enter their students for examinations, and spread the joy of dance.
